In Memory

The ones we will never forget.  They have all held a special place in our family, and will continue to do so.  They couldn't be deleted from the website, as they have earned a forever place.  RIP.

"Mic" came to us from Lisa Feldner as a show and ranch horse for the kids.  Boy does he fit the bill!  While he is a big boy, he is gentle, well broke and quiet.  The kids love him and he has really learned to enjoy all of the attention Abby gives him.  He has been Abby's show horse in 4-H and at ApHC shows doing walk/trot events from 2014-2017.  He and Adam shared a very successful year in Leadline in 2014, and for 2015, 2016, and 2017 he has safely packed a more energetic Kyle around.  Mic was Katy's walk/trot partner in 2018 and parts of 2019, and Kyle's for 2019 and 2020.  He was a well accomplished show horse while with Lisa and her sons - both within the USA and up in Canada.  On top of being the kids' show horse, he also pulls his own around the ranch.  He has been one of the best additions to our herd and a great teacher for Abby - and the rest of the kids.  We can never thank Lisa enough for this boy.
Much to Mic's dismay, we are trying to retire the old man, but he wants nothing of it.  He expects the kids to bring him up with the rest of the horses and gets quite angry and shows off running around when he isn't brought in to ride.  They play along and take him out once and awhile.  You wouldn't know that 2021 will make him 28 years old.

Adam fell in love with Alice back in 2014 when he borrowed her for a few months to ride.  When the opportunity came up for her to come live with us as a retirement home, he eagerly accepted.  She is a sweet, sweet mare that is getting quite spoiled.  She is an accomplished show horse and wonderful mom.  We're glad to have her here.  Adam and Alice did their first show Oct 2016, and he was grinning from ear to ear!  He was hoping to show her in 2017, but Alice had a bit of a surprise for everyone when she delivered a colt in early June.  Adam took that opportunity to breed for his Magnum baby as Alice's ringbone is getting too bad for her to be ridden.  His filly, Iris, arrived in early June - you can see her on the Prospects page.  Alice then took things in to her own hooves and did some fence crawling...and in late June 2020, presented us with "Emma".  Alice is now fully retired back to Lisa's.

Straw Sham x Popeyes Pride

4/1/98 -9/9/19 |  Gold Champagne Blanket Mare  |  ApHC # 589745  | ICHR #  AP1999-0319

Peaches has been with us the longest of the mares and earned the top spot on the Mare Page - Kristine purchased her back in early 2000 as a long yearling and has never had a thought of her leaving since!  Peaches really doesn't need an introduction.  She is a full sister to Straws Mighty Magnum and every bit as precious to us as Magnum is.  Peaches was shown lightly as a 2-4 year old in open shows where she was always in the ribbons in halter, showmanship, western pleasure, hunter under saddle and games - although her strength is pleasure events!  She attended one ApHC show where she and Kristine picked up a couple points.  Her show career was then sidelined with a serious injury sustained while we lived in Alaska.  She was pretty much retired until 2015 when we pulled her out of pasture to be Adam's walk/trot mount and Katy's leadline mount!  While she doesn't move very nicely anymore due to her old, old injury, she is safe, steady, and the kids love her!  She was  Adam's primary walk/trot horse.

4/25/94-12/6/18  |  Chestnut Blanket Mare  |  ApHC # 549291

"Berreta" came to us very graciously from Crystal Pitkin as a horse for Katy after Katy lost her beloved Princess in Sept. 2015.  While "Miss Bert" was enjoying retired life at Crystal's, I think she is really enjoying how much a little girl can spoil a horse!  She and Katy already think the world of one another - and Miss Bert knows where those sugar cubes come from!  Katy showed Miss Bert in leadline, halter and most colorful for most of the 2016 show season, and then added the whole slate of walk/trot clases in 2017.  2017 was Katy and Berreta's final year as a team as Miss Bert's old age is catching up with her.  She spent a leisurely summer out on pasture with treats of sugar cubes, and returned to Crystal fall of 2018.
Our hearts were broken to hear of Miss Bert's passing.  She was a doll that will forever be in our hearts - and a huge part of Katy for the rest of her life.  RIP dear girl.

Totally Modest

5/22/16-12/25/2017  |  Chestnut Filly  |  ApHC # N683324

"Hope" wasn't as big of a surprise as her big sister, Pippi, but she is another knock-out Magnum filly.  She is out of Totally Conspicuous, a maternal sister to The Hunter, and a proven show and broodmare.  She may not look like Daddy, but she is her father's daughter with her personality!  Friendly, smart, athletic, and cute to boot.  She is pictured at 6 days of age.

We were so excited about this filly...sadly she was lost in a tragic pasture accident on Christmas Day.  RIP Hope.

Totally Conspicuous

1/7/94-11/2/2017 |  Chestnut Roan Mare  |  ApHC # 528664

"Sugar" came here for Magnum.  She gave us 2 beautiful daughters from Magnum before it was time to let her go in the fall of 2017.  Sadly, just 1 1/2 months later, we also said a tearful goodbye to her 2017 filly.  She's an own daughter of AQHA great Totally Impressed - making her a paternal sister to The Hunter, and out of Mighty Dialette a multiple National/World Champion mare.  Sugar did spend a bit of time in the show ring, and has produced some super nice babies.

In Memory of "Princess"

6/5/91-9/18/15

We only owned princess for just over 2 short years, but she and Katy had such a bond. Katy started riding Princess this spring and every time I or Abby & Adam would ride, she would ride Princess - and for the full hour we rode - just walking her around and around the rail or taking her over trail obstacles. When Katy found out she could be a Cloverbud in 4-H for 2015-2016, she immediately started working with Princess for SMS for our fair (July 2016). They spent hours each day together - walking around the farm, Princess grazing or getting brushed...Katy would tell her stories non-stop. It was seldom you saw Princess without her mane and tail braided or with a spec of dirt on her. Katy even used some of her birthday money to buy Princess a brand new lime green halter and lead just 2 weeks ago. They both had a stubborn streak a mile wide, but I think it made their partnership even better. I can't tell you how many times I cursed at this pony - (both under my breath and outloud!), but what I wouldn't give to have her back for Katy right now. May you rest in peace "Princess" AKA BL Easy Street. You will be missed. 6/5/91-9/18/15

Hank
~ 1985-2015 Grade gelding

Hank came to us late in life as an accomplished ranch hand...and that is what he was.  No time for arena work, or anything that didn't involve riding a fence or moving cows.  He was as sure footed as they come and he and Jake rode many miles in the badlands by Grassy Butte.  He was a good ol' boy, and while we only knew him the last 6 years of his life, and owned him the last 4, he will forever have a place in our hearts.  May he never run out of cows to chase or fences to ride.
